London Naked Bike Ride Event

There is still time, however, to organise your entry on the London Naked Bike Ride Event on 9th June. The London World Naked Bike Ride is a protest event in London raising awareness of issues such as safety of cyclists on the road, reducing oil dependence and saving the planet.

London hosts the largest daytime WNBR event in the world, which started in 2004 with 58 participants and has grown to over 1 thousand participants each year since 2007. To join meet up at 3pm for a 3.30pm departure in Hyde Park.

If you are worried about the legality of the event you may be interested to know that, contrary to popular opinion, there is no law against nudity in England.If you are uncomfortable getting undressed with all of the photographers around only need to get undressed just before the ride starts. If you wear clothes that can be quickly removed, you could leave the park dressed, pull over, remove your clothes and rejoin the ride.

For your health and safety on the ride footwear is required in order to allow riders to come to a safe emergency stop.Helmets are not compulsory but you are advised by the website to consider the evidence on cycling safety and helmets, then take your own decision on whether to wear a helmet or not.Other advice includes; Bicycles are to be ridden in a manner appropriate for use on the road. All riders should be seated on appropriate seats in line with The Highway Code. Don't take passengers on luggage racks or handlebars.

Owing to safety concerns, runners are no longer permitted in the World Naked Bike Ride in London.

NW London Diamond Jubilee Celebrations in North West London

To mark 60 years of The Queen's reign the Diamond Jubilee celebrations will centre around an extended weekend in 2012 on 2, 3, 4 and 5 June.

The Queen will be in London for the extended weekend and the major televised events include the BBC Buckingham Palace Rock Concert, The Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant where up to 1,000 boats assembled from across the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world will accompany the the Royal Barge with The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh on board forming the centrepiece of the flotilla.

Brent Council have organised Diamond Jubilee Celebrations A free event is being organised at Wembley Arena Square on Sunday 3 June 2012 12 - 4pm Everyone is welcome and the event is expected to attract a family audience of about 3,000 people.

Residents are encouraged to bring picnics, enjoy a fun afternoon event in the park, watch performances, take part in workshops, or try some of the diverse food that will be available to buy. There will be food stalls, council information stalls, workshops and walkabout for performances.

There are 2 days of festivities in Mapesbury to celebrate the Jubilee;

Spring Bank Holiday Weekend in Kilburn

The demolition and reconstruction of Kilburn High Road bridge will take place over the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend, marking the key stage in a £7.3 million project by Network Rail and Camden Council.

From Friday night until Tuesday morning (26 – 30 May) three cranes and more than 100 engineers will be on-site to demolish the existing bridge, removing some 2,000 tonnes of material. The 54 sections that make up the new bridge structure will then be carefully lifted into place piece-by-piece.

The reconstruction work is essential to strengthen the bridge and prevent future weight restrictions that could stop buses and other large vehicles from using the route. Network Rail’s Route Director Peter Strachan said: “We are working closely with Camden Council to complete this work which is essential to secure the future of transport services through Kilburn. This weekend is a crucial stage in the project but every effort is being made to carry out the work as quickly as possible and to minimise noise and disruption for local people.”

Richard Pearson, Head of Camden Consultancy, said: “We appreciate that this work will have an effect on local traders and residents. However, we are running on schedule, to a programme that enables us to finish the project as quickly as possible and minimise disruption to everyone in the area. All diversionary routes have been carefully planned and widely communicated, for example via regular community newsletters.”

London Cyclists Big Ride

On April 28th London cyclist are making their voices heard by joining a family-friendly, fully marshalled,four-mile,traffic-free bike ride through central London. The London Cycling Campaign is hoping that the London Mayoral candidates will take note of their demands for further measures for safer streets for cycling in the capital.The campaign boasts 11,000 members, 33 borough groups, 15 staff, and hundreds of activists constantly engaging politicians and civil servants so they’re aware of cyclists’ needs.

There are local meeting points from where London cyclists can join the main Bike Ride. North West London local bus rides link into the main ride at the following venues

The Rail,Maritime and Transport union, RMT, announced that its members, work on the Piccadilly, Northern and Jubilee lines and provide a number of services, including emergency repairs, across the entire network, had voted 4 to 1 to walk out at 4pm on Tuesday until the same time on Friday.

The dispute is over equal rights, travel concession benefits and pensions for all of London Undergrounds Maintenance Workers.

Tube Lines operations director Lee Jones said: "A strike on this issue is completely unnecessary and will not achieve anything."Should a strike go ahead, we have plans in place which will enable London Underground to operate Tube services... and to minimise any disruption."

With a busy London summer ahead and one of London Olympics 2012 stated aims for 100 per cent of spectators to get to the Games by public transport, or by walking or cycling, RMT Union boss Bob Crow is defiant. He told Reuters "We'll strike any time. It's irrelevant whether the Olympics are on or not. We're not being blackmailed by saying that because the Olympics is on, then we can't doing anything about it" .

During the Olympics,London's public transport network will deal with an extra three million daily journeys, as 10,500 athletes, 9,000 officials, 20,000 journalists and millions of spectators head to Olympic sites across the capital.
